G'Day Sizzlers!
It has been interesting to see so many of you would like to be
able to get our software on a CD. It has been something we have
thought of doing for a long time, but logistically in the past we
have never been set up to handle such an undertaking. With the
demand shown for the Holiday Special, which included HotDog on a
CD shipped to you, I am definitely going to work out the
logistical problems and try and get all of our offerings on CD
sometime soon.
Something that started during the holidays and is being extended
until the end of March, is the competition to see who can build
the most spectacular Web site. You must use a HotDog editor to
build it, however it will be the design that will probably catch
our eye the most. Just send your entries to the Sizzler Editor.
Prizes are as follows:
- 1st Place - Platinum Dog Pack
- 2nd Place - Gold Dog Pack
- 3rd Place - Silver Dog Pack
Already we have a number of good entries, and few users asked for
an extension on the deadline, so I expect there will be some well
thought out sites entered.
Finally we are returning back to the content oriented Sizzler.
Like most companies we needed to make a buck over the holiday
season and did not have a lot of resources on hand to keep up all
the sections in the newsletter, so the Sizzler newsletter ended
up being a bit too a sales oriented. That ends with this issue.
Yes we will still have an advertisement or sponsor in each
edition but it will be outweighed by the useful tips, opinions
and reviews.
We have two new writers, Orion Johnson who is taking over the
Designed for Browsing section, and Kevin Hannan will be providing
us all with
HotDog and
general tips and tricks. Bram will be back
with the Gear Grinders section as soon as I release him from
solitary confinement.
As always remember we love your feedback and with it hope to
improve the Sizzler constantly. So feel free to send your
comments to me!
Keep on sizzling!

Mandarin Design
http://www.mandarindesign.com/
If you're an aspiring web designer like myself, or even a well
established designer in your prime, I just found a site that you
better add to your favorites. Mandarin Design, a non-profit
design group from California, has created a source of unlimited
information for us and even wrapped it in an attractive package.
The site features articles about other web sites, how to's, and
tons of interesting facts that you might not know yet. Take a
look in their gallery and feel free to use any of their
photographs or banners in your own work. This company is all
about open source and wants to share everything with the design
community. It's amazing!!
My favorite part of the site is their blog. It's basically a
huge grab bag of free tips and tricks. You can find tutorials,
cheats, techniques, utilities, and links to a ton of other useful
sites. Just copy and paste any code that you find useful, and
come back the next day because they'll probably add something
even cooler. Check it out Sizzlers. You won't regret it!

Auto Populating a HTML slide show
Sizzler Newbie "nclark" has a need for an easy way to make a
gallery on her web site from all of her images:
"I have multiple directories of pictures that I would like to
put in a thumbnail layout and then when one is clicked it brings
up a new window with arrows (I have seen it lots before) these
arrows will allow you to view the next and previous picture in the
directory. I know these people on these sites don't hard code that
entire thing it would be 20-30 unique HTML pages per directory.
Does anybody have any idea how this is done?"

Sizzler Spotlight by Nathan Allan
(HTML) Removing Tags from Images
Sometimes you can see a little underscore-type mark next to an
image on a web page and, no matter what, you know you didn't put
it there! What happened? Here's how to create it:
<a href="www.sausage.com"> <img src="picture.gif"> </a>
The HTML code above creates a hyperlink (to Sausage Software's
website) so that when the picture file is clicked a browser
window will open and display the relevant web site. This code
will generate what is known as a ‘tick', which can be seen near
the picture.
The tick is the correct display for our code because we inserted
a space between the closing chevron of the <img src> tag and the
opening chevron of the close anchor tag </a>.
To get rid of the tick all we have to do is delete the spaces
between our HTML tags:
<a href="www.sausage.com"><img src="picture.gif"></a>
and the display we intended will be created!
Take a look at our Sizzler Forum's if you have any further image
or web-related queries. With over 1,000 members you're sure to
find what you're looking for! See for yourself at the
Sizzler Forums and while you're there why not have a go
creating your own multimedia extravaganza with Boomer as part of
our competition to win one of three fantastic prizes!
