G'Day Sizzlers!
I have written a Gear Grinders opinion piece on personal security
on the web for this weeks Sizzler. Yes it is a bit of a rant,
however I want our customers to understand our reasoning behind
some of our policies. Plus it is something you can point your
friends who are new to the Internet to. Hopefully it will give
them a little clue!
We have listened to you all again, and by popular demand the
dog sounds are back in HotDog. Truth be told I never wanted them
out, as I know a large portion of users love them, while you can
always turn them off if you loath them! If you cannot wait until
Build 3 of HotDog Professional go to the following download:
ftp://ftp.sausage.com/pub/hotdog/hotdog7/soundpack.exe
On a somewhat more administrative note, we have had some
intermittent problems with our mail server over the past week. If
you have not received a reply to any support query you may have
submitted please try submitting it again.
Also I am still looking for people who want to share their
experiences with our support and development teams. I do not
think it helped that my email was screwy last week, so please
send in your comments.
Read, learn and implement!
Keep on sizzling!

We have had a few unsolicited comments on the new version, via
email and the forums. We are attempting to deal with any problems
as quickly as possible. Here is one of the comments we
have received (plus a link to the whole thread from the forums):
Woof !!! I'm back in business. The CEO of Sausage and the lead
programmer got together and resolved this problem for me. It
turned out it was my install method and not the software release.
Tuff bug to find.
NOW THAT IS GOING THE EXTRA MILE if you ask me. When's the last
time you heard of an upper management team resolving customer
issues in any other major software company.
Thank you Sausage !!!

Protecting your Private Information
From our experience at Sausage and from recently reading some
articles on the net, it seems that people are not protecting, or
are having, their private data stolen. By this I primarily mean
credit card details. These are then used to make fraudulent
purchases.
Lately it seems that at Sausage we are having at least a couple
of fraudulent purchases go through per week. At Sausage we try to
cover ourselves AND our customers by using address verification.
Unfortunately some people do not guard their details closely
enough. Exposing themselves to credit card abuse by criminals,
albeit normally obliviously. The first the victim knows about it
is a charge on their credit card statement from a company they
have no idea about.
There is also a number of scams at the moment where people are
being deceived. The victim is lead to believe they are being
requested by their banks to provide sensitive data. Anyone asking
for such details over the Internet is a fraud. Banks are never
going to do this (at least with today's technology).
I believe the problem has a lot to do with people not being
Internet savvy. You can tell when you speak to these people that
they are not very familiar with the ins and outs of the Internet.
The simple rule that should be spread to all of your friends and
family who are online is,"Do not share ANY personal information
with ANYONE on the Internet!".
I know it would make online retailers lives easier.

Previewing your work in HotDog Professional 7
I'm continuing the theme of how HotDog gives me speed, precision
and control by showing you how I use HotDog in my everyday work
and how it can work for you too, regardless of how skilled you
are or the size and function of your website.Time and motion
studies (the study of how long specific tasks take to do) show
that it is the simple, mundane and repetitive tasks that occupy
most of our time. Reducing the impact of inefficient working
practices gives us more control of our time and as a consequence
we become more productive. HotDog does this particularly well by
giving immediate access to key features through a single mouse-
click and a single-key sequence.
One such feature that all web-coders use is the Preview function
that allows us to view our work on browsers such as HotDog's
Rover, Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator or any of the other
excellent alternatives available. This feature can be accessed
from the menu, toolbar icon or F9 - each method being quicker
than the last with the fastest at just a single key-press away.
When you select this function you are given as many ways to view
your work as you have browsers. You can easily add or take away
specific browsers by editing this list in Edit | Preferences |
Browsers. If, like me, you work with one specific browser you
could edit this list to show only your preferred browser. Then,
when you preview your work, you will be given an immediate
preview instead of choosing from a list - saving clicks saves
time!
HotDog 7 goes one further still. By using HotDog's Browser for
previewing work you are given an option to view your work at all
the standard resolutions. This feature alone has saved me hours
of work per week. Even if you have only one basic website this
feature can help give you that professional edge by allowing you
to make sure that your website can be viewed as you intended.
As a web-coder I mainly do simple and basic websites because that
is what my clients want, although I do have a few complex and
large sites as well. It may seem a little dry trying to save time
and increase productivity but what I really want to get across is
that HotDog is powerful and flexible enough to take away the
monotony of essential but repetitive work, leaving me time to
create and innovate! Quite simply, HotDog works the way I want to
work!
With speed, precision and control just a single click away, why
don't you try HotDog 7 now?
